Wedding HELP

My parents went through a messy divorce when I was 4 years old and do not speak to each other. My mother remarried a wonderful man who I consider my dad. However, I recently re-established a relationship with my biological father and obviously, would like them all at my wedding. I wouldn't feel right having anyone but my step-dad walk me down the aisle but do not want to offend my father. What should I do?

Thank you,
Bethany in Toronto

Dear Bethany,

If you don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, and everyone agrees, then both fathers can walk you down the aisle. Your biological father should be honored to know that you respect him enough to ask even though he hasn't played a big part in your life. You can explain to your stepfather that you love him and appreciate everything he's done for you, but you just have this one little favor to ask of him.

If there is too much animosity to even suggest that solution, then you can consider asking your mother and step-father to accompany you down the aisle and simply explain to your biological father that your wedding day will not be as happy without his presence. Just remember that it is your wedding day and you need to do what you feel in your heart is right.

Best Wishes,
Nancy Jaeger
